Trickle on hot water tap after took radiator off to redecorate

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.53 PM

I have a back-boiler on my multi-fuel burner to send hot water to radiators around my house. Took the radiator off to redocorate and put back on last night. When putting the rad back on, turned the water off and drained entire system (hot & cold). Reattached and turned back on, water leaked out of the rad. Turned it off, emptied again, tightened and turned on. Now I can only get a trickle out of the kitchen hot tap. Nothing upstairs, incl rad.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Probably an air lock. If the kitchen tap is a monoblock tap you can put your hand over the spout covered with a towel, turn on hot tap then slowly turn on cold tap. The cold water will now flow up the hot pipes as it cannot get out of the spout, this will push the air up to the loft tank. Try it for about 10 seconds then turn off cold and then take your hand off spout and the hot water should flow. If not repeat for slightly longer.

kitchen taps are bi flow and do not mix in the valve ,so you will just get wet if you do as suggested ,if you have single hot and cold taps on your sink connect hose between them and force main into hot to remove airlock, your rad is a different problem you may need a plumber to sort it out.
