Plastering Behind New Kitchen Units
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.11 PM
We're in the middle of having our kitchen fitted. The old plaster behind the tiles had blown and had to be removed which meant we had to board & skim the walls. The fitter is working to a really tight schedule and although this was only skimmed yesterday afternoon, the units are due to go on today. Is it OK that the walls haven't 100% dried out and we won't have time to seal the plaster with a watered down emulsion/PVA mix? We'll be painting the exposed areas once the plaster has dried out.

The kitchen units should be sealed but either way I don't think it is a problem fitting a day after plastering

Fitting the kitchen the day after is too soon because there’s a lot of water in those walls and as the water dries out it has to go somewhere and the units can absorb that water which could result in those units swelling and even getting a funny smell. I would always recommend waiting at least 3 days to a week before fixing anything to those walls.
If you don’t have time to use a mist coat behind those units then I wouldn’t worry about that.
Thank you
