Water leaks downstairs when the shower is used

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.51 PM

Hello, I had an ensuite shower room put in a few months ago and also changed the shower tray in the family bathroom. Both rooms were also extensively tiled. There is often water dripping downstairs when the showers are being used. When the water is turned off whilst lathering etc there is little to no leak but if left on for the whole duration of the shower then the leaks start. Is this likely to be a sealant issue or much worse?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Most likely it is the silicon , worst scenario if it is a concealed mixer unit it could be coming from the outlet pipe

It could also be leaking from the shower drainage pipe. I would start investigating by checking the most accessible cause, the silicone seal, then the drainage waste pipe which may or may not be relatively easy to get at. If the shower tray has a plastic trim, remove it and use a torch to check the drainage connections. as Graham says, the worst scenario is a leak from the supply pipes to the mixer or outlet pipe as these are usually concealed behind plaster/board/tiles etc
