Preparing and painting over nicotine stained walls

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.52 PM

Hi, We are moving house next week and the current owners are smokers. Most of the walls are now a nice shade of yellow/brown due to nicotine. The walls are painted with no wallpaper and look to be in fairly good condition apart from the colour. Whats the best way to prepare and paint? Any specific brands/paints you would recommend? I don't want the staining to come through the new paint if we just paint over it. Thanks

My advice would be to either paint over the ceilings and walls with undercoat or pliolite masonry (smells a bit) or use Zinsser primer sealer (more expensive). Good luck
