Do I need permission to change pitched roof to tiles and change timbers?

hi, i have an extention on the rear of the property that we bought, it has a pitched roof fitted using 3.5"x2" the covering for the roof is the conservatory style. my question is do i need planning permision the change to roof to tiles as i intend to change the timbers for 6"x2" timbers

You would certainly need building regulation approval and a good possibility you need planning. You can check out the government planning portal website here, great source of information http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/permission/commonprojects/roof/ If you take photos and as much detail as you can, take these alone to your local authority.
