Electical issue/mystery - when turn on bathroom light, all first floor lights turn off

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.52 PM

We recently had our house re-wired and paid a fair amount, now their seems to be an issue with the lights on the first floor, when you turn the bathroom light on they all turn off. The rewire electrician who did the work cant find the fault and has spent endless amounts of time trying to locate the fault without solution. He now has suggested to rewire upstairs through the loft, at further cost. He is adamant someone has tampered with it since certifying it. Can anyone offer advice an what the issue may be? and whether it should b covered under the electrians rewire guarantee to his customer. We have not tampered with any of the electrics what so ever?? thanks

The work should be put right FREE of charge under the 6 year guarantee. You should not be being asked to pay more money. If you do not have the guarantee or were not told about it then complain to the Trade Association that the electrician belongs to.

Whatever the fault is it should not be difficult to track down for a real electrician. if nobody has been messing with the circuits it will be covered by the mandatory 6 year guarantee. Always presuming you actually hired a real registered electrician which would mean your job is registered with both his/her governing body and the LABC(this is a mandatory requirement and the responsibility of the householder). This being the case you can call his governing body who will sort the issue out for you. If done as required you should be in possession of a compliance certificate as well as in installation certificate.
