Can i have spotlights in a ground floor flat?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.52 PM

I live in a ground floor flat and am hoping to get spotlights fitted in my hallway. Every comment i've read on fitting them mentions taking up floor boards, but i can't do this as i don't have access to my neighbour's property. Is there another way to fit spotlights in my hallway ceiling?

Not without a lot of holes on the underside of the ceiling. As such you should allow for the cost of completely re-plastering of the ceiling. As the other reply has stated drawires and fishtapes can be used to some extent but do not always work in every situation. depends on the age of the property, which way the joists run and whether the ceiling void is filled with insulation or not.

A good electrician will cut the round holes for the spotlights and feed the cables through using what they call fish tapes, which are thin metal rods. He may need to make extra holes which can be filled after. You will also need to install fire rated downlights for safety.

no you dont need to plaster the whole ceiling if you hire a good electrician they would limit the amount of holes depending on the way the joists are running and can patch up the small holes after
