Kitchen Fitting

I think I have been scammed by kitchen company

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.52 PM

Please help me. I saw an advert for a budget kitchen company and asked for a quote. I could tell the salesman was in a hurry and putting pressure on me and normally I would resist this. He told me he needed £100 cash and I said no at first but he said he the company never makes two visits for a quote and I would lose the kitchen if I didn't go for it now. He told me there was a 14 day cancellation policy if I changed my mind. He didn't really give me time to read the contract or think about things. Stupidly I gave him the £100 and arranged delivery and fitting date. I rang the company next morning because I thought I had been scammed (I could find no information about the company except for their website) and wanted to cancel. I was reassured by the receptionist it was all legit and she talked to me for quite a while. Today my husband looked up the managing director of the company and he has had many companies with bad reviews and his partner had to leave the country. When people have tried to cancel they say they have lost the paperwork, or nobody informed them, they deliver the goods and demand payment. Tomorrow I am emailing the company, ringing receptionist and sending the cancellation document by registered post. Is there anything else I can do to make sure they don't deliver and charge me. Oh they only accept cash or bankers draft BTW. I have been really stupid I know. First time ever and I am nearly a pensioner.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Annie , I`m sorry to hear of the situation that you find yourself in, you seem to be taking all the correct step in order to cancel , it might also be worth giving your local trading standards a call, they may already have a file on the company involved and i`m sure they can assist in making sure this ordeal is brought to a speedy conclusion. Hi Annie. I too am really sorry this has happened to you, this type of bully tactics gives us genuine companies a bad reputation. It does sound like you are taking the right steps and trading standards is a great move. Speak to a solicitor or Citizens advice as well, they should be able to advise you on the correct course of action if the company actually delivers the goods. I would be genuinely interested to hear how you get on. John.
