OK to lay 600x300mm Quartz tiles on a wooden floor?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.11 PM

Is it OK to lay 600x300mm Quartz tiles on a wooden floor? Would 300x300mm be a better choice even though it then won't match the rectangular wall tiles we have? Will the length and the fact that you'll always get some flex in a wooden lead to cracking? The floor in question will be new. A 3" step in the middle of the Kitchen floor will be raised to match the rest of the kitchen floor. I'm assuming the builder will use timber batons with suitably thick plywood on top.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Once the ply is layed either overboard with 6mm cement backer glued and screwed or Schluter Ditra uncoupling mat,but one thing is that some quartz tiles are very problematic so go with a two part flex adhesive.

As previously suggested, overboard with Hardibacker board, I would go 12mm instead of 6mm on floors if height isn't an issue. Also a decoupling mat is a worthwhile investment.
