Cylinder airing cupboard pipes!

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.52 PM

I am in the process of refurbishing my bathroom. I have taken out the airing cupboard to make the bathroom larger. We had a combi fitted a year or so ago and the airing cupboard was left without the cylinder and 5 pipes that plumber capped off. I need to cut these down and cap so I can tile over them. I took out the pipe to the old header tank and 2 others, one a central heating pipe and the other was empty. I was about to take out the last to pipes out when my wife said " non of these are gas pipes are they " Now on my limited knowledge I thought their where just water pipes in there but the wife has got me worried about these two last pipes lol. So the question is could their be any chance that these could be gas pipes? This old cylinder airing cupboard is up stairs in a semi by the way. Thank You Dave.

It's unlikely that the remaining pipes will contain gas. A good way to find out is to trace the pipes back to where they are connected to or trace the gas pipe from your boiler to the gas meter it will usually take the shortest route. If your old boiler is in the same place as your new combi boiler it is likely that the gas supply pipe hasn't changed position.
