Location of electric cooker - need to stand with back to the side of the cooker to open fridge door

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.11 PM

My son in law has just rearranged his kitchen am I am concerned about the position of his electric cooker. The kitchen is around 16' long and 10' wide with doors at both small ends The door leading to the utility room has an inward opening door. He has placed the cooker next to the door which would normally open onto the cooker but he has decided to remove the door completely. there is only a small area of work surface (12") before meeting the main work surface run of 16' On the other side of the doorway is fridge and freezer and you would need to stand in the doorway to open the door with you back to the side of the cooker. I would appreciate any comments please as he will not listen to anyone's advice. They also have a 7 month old child.

Regulation says it is illegal to have the cooker at a window, next to the sink, and the cooker must have at least have 300mm worktop at each side as for placing hot items from the cooker.Another regulation is the cooker must be anchored to the floor or wall on a chain so that it does not topple over. It is also going to be law that you need an extractor above the cooker.Hope this answers your question????
