Creaking and movement on recently laid solid wood flooring in bungalow (concrete subfloor)
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.52 PM
I have recently had solid wood flooring fitted to my lounge and kitchen by a local firm. From the start I have creaking and movement in a large part of the lounge and part of the hall. I mentioned this to the fitter after a week and was told that is was because the floor was uneven. I live in a bungalow (1980) and have concrete sub floor. There is no damp. The wood was glued to the concrete as per manufacturers instructions and their recommended glue. Should any uneveness been addressed before the wood was laid? And is there anything that can be done to correct the problem now?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi I'm an NICF master fitter and a quick step master installer with 2NVQ diplomas in wood installation and sub floor preparation. A solid timber floor should not be glued to an uneven sub floor, what has happened is where the floor is uneven the timber is not bonded to the sub floor and the glue has now cured hence the movement, the squeaking is timber rubbing on timber, unfortunately we see this a lot and it's down to fitter error,
