Do I need a Building Warrant to remove a shower cubicle?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.10 PM

We have an L-shaped bedroom with a (random!) shower cubicle in one corner. It's not an ensuite (no separate door between the two rooms) it's literally been installed in the corner. I know the previous owner got Permissions for the installation but we don't use it (it's a bit grim having a shower in the bedroom!) and we want to remove it completely and replace it with an inbuilt wardrobe. Do we need a Building Warrant for this? We are in Scotland. It's fully tiled and plumbed into the drainage servicing the bathroom on the other side of the internal wall. We also have a pull-cord operated electric extractor fan - which we also never use. If applicable, we currently have an over-bath shower in the bathroom and we are currently at the PP stage for a rear extension which will rejig our existing bathroom to allow us to install a separate shower cubicle (for the creaky grandparents when they come to stay!) thereby meeting disability regs.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You would need building regulations to install it but cannot see any reason why you need anything to remove it. You will probably need building regulation approval for the new shower, they have to check the drainage and extraction is correct. Best thing is if you simple call building control and ask the question, they are very approachable. Regards, Paul Albright
