Best way to sort carpet for whole house...

Anonymous user 22/02/2024 - 2.34 PM

We have just finished painting and are looking to get 3 bedrooms +landing/stairs and sitting room carpeted ASAP all with the same stuff. Aware that some suppliers can be expensive on various different parts of the process so we are proposing to do the following : - Buy our Carpet supply-only from Carpetright (have already chosen 100% wool @ around £15/sqm) - Buy underlay/grippers etc. online direct - have done this before for previous flat - Post a job up here for someone to come and fit the carpet Anyway would appreciate any feedback on concerns about the quality of the Carpet from carpetright as opposed to other online or local providers. Prepared to pay for quality if needed as don't want to be doing this again in 6 months, but want to do this as sensibly as possible... thanks in advance, Alex NB Actual carpet we have chosen is here : Berber Delux Fawn Cobble: http://www.carpetright.co.uk/berber-deluxe-fawn-cobble-3.html

Dear Alex. As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. Indeed in many cases you get a lot less than you pay for. Big companies work to margins just like any other. The buy a product from the wholesaler or direct to the manufacturer and look to make as much margin on it as possible. In many cases, their buying power allows them to under cut small retailers who have to compete and work with smaller margins, selling some products as a loss leader. It becomes swings and round abouts and they make the margin up with the supply and fit of the product, fixtures and fittings, underlay and threshold strips. My advice would be to shop around. Find a product and compare the entire price fitted. You would be surprised that some smaller companies offer great value on some products and are highly skilled when it comes to fitting. They try harder with their customer service and you know the job will be done right, esp. if they are local and have been trading for many years. I am sure if there was a problem at a later stage they would more than pleased to put it right with you needing to phone a foreign company! We always go with the smaller local company and use the larger companies prices as a cost comparison. I do hope this helps. Kind regards, Kieran Gannon MCIOB gannon.cc

hi Alex carpet right carpets are the same as most shops and on line retailers, most carpets get renamed to stop price matching, you have stated you are going for a 100% wool so i am guessing this is a berber this is fine for flat lay but not the best for stairs as a twist wool mix would be better if you are going for underlay i would recomend cloud nine, its a good alround underlay for all areas kind regards James JD Flooring & Blinds LTD

I strongly recomend that you use an independent carpet supllier. as long as you explain to the supplier your needs it is possible to save 50% off carpetright prices. shop around as much as possible. The same 100% wool carpet i can supply for £10.99 per m2 i also supply underlay well below average price. (ebay is also good for this) carpetright are the market leader's at a cost carpet is all sourced from near enough the same wholesalers. regards dave
