Low water pressure in my house

The water pressure in my home isn't great and I was just wondering if it was possible to make it stronger. The water come out fine its just not that powerful, even the cold. It just takes a while to fill things up. Also if you're having a shower and you run the tap downstairs it will stop the shower. Just wondering if there was anything that could be done or if something would need fixing. We don't really want to use a pump as i believe they can be noisy Thank you
