Discharge W.C into unused rain water gully?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.07 PM

Is it possible to discharge the WC waste in my ground floor bedroom conversion into a un-used gully? I've connected a water butt so no longer needed. Both the rain water and foul waste are on a combined system, so I don't see the reason why I cant discharge into the gully (remove the cover obviously) in the back yard so would be no problem. All goes into the sewer in the end, and no problem with venting? It would save a lot of time compared to trying to connect into the existing waste pipe which is well below ground and I would have to dig up all the old stone flags to try to find it. Trying to do everything myself on the cheap but this is the first hands on DIY project for me. Thanks Phil Cottier

Yes in theory if the drainage system is combined, however, the existing gulley is trapped and would have to be replaced with a swept bend. You will also need to consider rodding access and venting. It is a material change to the drainage system and should be inspected by the Council or equiv body. Good luck
