Plastering & Rendering

Damp on downstairs chimney breast and adjoining walls spreading sideways

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.10 PM

The (down stairs only) Chimney breast and adjoining walls are damp approx 1m high and spreading sideways. Two roofers have looked at the roof / chimney and said that they cannot see any problems. (The roof is approx 8 years old). I have had a damp proof injected into the walls in May and the plaster removed and re-plastered. the plaster doesnt apperar to be drying out much, but I got another plasterer to look at it whom advised that it could take approx six months. There is salt coming out of the wall, and when it rains wet patches reappear on the chimney breast and we can hear rain dripping. When the damp proof was injected, a gap was left between the floor & the new plaster, another plasterer has also checked the new plaster and confirmed that the correct plaster was used. Please can anybody suggest what the problem is. Many thanks

When you say the walls were plastered was this plaster or waterproof cement & sand render? In our experience removing the existing plaster to a height of 1.2m and rendering after the injected damp course is the best solution to rising damp.

Hi is this a gable end wall.? Does not matter if a Dampcourse was installed or what plaster was used. There must be water getting in from somewhere if you can here dripping and wet patches appear after it rains. Maybe soak with hose pipe on chimney stack to confirm this.
