Woodworm / floor boards replacement - plan to lay solid wood flooring and underfloor heating

Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.34 PM

Hi, the situation I am in is there is woodworm in my living room. A small area has given way, its not in an area that we walk on so its not causing too many issues. Also the flooring is just floor boards. There has been some damp in one of the corners in the room which has hopefully been dealt with. I have had a quote to get the floor treated and it came to around £500. However I have plans to lay solid wood flooring in the room as well as some underfloor heating. Would it be more cost efficient (on energy costs included) to rip up the floorboards and replace with concert. (gap is around 1 foot to the floor from the floor boards)

Woodworm is tricky to deal with as though you have a small area damaged this means the Beetle has moved on a long time ago, you can't see what lies underneath. I did a floor last year same thing small area of damage but when I got under the floor all the joists had woodworm in them, they weren't structurally damaged but the whole area had to be treated below and above and any damaged timber replaced. Also timber close to affected area which looks sound should be treated too . Better to be safe than sorry. My advice to you is check it with a fine tooth comb replace damaged timber and drown the whole lot with woodworm killer. Hope this helps
