How difficult is it to extend on a property with a steep sloped garden?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.10 PM

I am looking for advice. I have a 2 bedroomed semi detached home, the location is great and i do not want to move however i would like to extend my home at the rear of the house as i have loads of ground. My problem is i have a steep sloped rear garden in which i do believe would have to be levelled out and retaining wall built in view of extension. How difficult would this be????? Please Help!!!!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

why not go for the ozone friendly style of a wooden chalet style extension on stilts ( look at queenslander houses in australia) they do it all the time , and is passable on building regs. look on the net for building and planning restrictions, but these cost a fraction of a brick built extension

Hello, Steep sloping garden extension - No problem. Just remember that as long as you don't compromise the existing foundations there will not be a problem. If I was in your position I would want to know how deep the existing foundations are then I can work out if the new foundation will be too dangerous to dig out. An alternative would be to produce a pile and beam foundation design. Its a lot more expensive but could be the best solution. Kind regards Andrew

Hi, there is no retaining wall that cannot be built, think of a reservoir bank! But this will obviously cost more to build than a standard extension as the cost of getting rid of muck can be expensive, the best way is to contact an architect for initial advice and a site visit and he/she should be able to give you an initial indication of your options and costs.
