Repairing small areas of hallway - advisable to use one coat plaster?
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.07 PM
Hi have just removed wallpaper from my hallway. Some plaster has come off (to brickwork) just above stair skirting and also some skim from another wall. As these are only small areas, would it be advisable to use one coat plaster? Also can one coat plaster be used as a skim or would it be advisable to use another product /method altogether? Thanks Mrs Riley

I sometimes use one-coat for patching up small holes or for repairing plaster, I would say this is perfectly fine if you know how to use it properly! I wouldn't recommend re-plastering a whole room with one-coat. Regarding building up your sub from brick I would use Bonding then apply a multifinish as a skim coat to the walls. It is a must to prep walls and brick areas with a PVA/Water mix to reduce drying and absorption.

One coat plaster does have its uses but only in small areas. In my opinion, it is aimed at the DIYer as opposed to professional tradesmen..
I would coat the bare brickwork with unibond and leave to dry for forty eight hours . I would then apply a coat of bonding plaster followed by two skim coats of multi finish and polish it up.
