15 amp appliance in the UK - moved to the UK from India

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.10 PM

Hi, I recently moved to the UK from India and brought a dryer with me which has a type M 15 amp plug. I changed the plug to the standard UK plug but the dryer does not work. Is it because of the 15 amp appliance in a standard 13 amp socket ? Similarly, I have a 240V to 120V step down transformer , again bought in India, with a standard 5 amp plug (which I used in India for my US TV's/ Music Amps etc) but that also does not power on even when plugged in? Any solutions / ideas would be really appreciated since I don't want to go out and buy all these appliances here again !

Electricity in India is 240 Volts, alternating at 50 cycles per second. Nominal voltage here is 230V at 50 cycles per second(reality is actually more often than not around 240V) If your appliances were designed to operate on mains in India they should work here. Confirm the above specs by comparing with the info on the spec plates on the appliances.
