Street cable supply going into our drive, exposed after some gardening
Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.50 PM
Hello, we were digging out some weeds in preparation for a new driveway in the future and there is this cable, quite thick black cable. It runs ground level from the street through our front wall to the drive in the soil and presumably underground to the house. Any ideas what we need to do about this or who to contact? Many thanks Sara

Any alteration or moving of this cable should be done by the distribution network operator for your area as it is their responsibility.
Search through the electricity distribution map on line to find the operator for your area.

You will have to contact your Distribution Network Operator as it belongs to them. Unfortunately you will have to pay to get the cable diverted and it could cost several thousand pounds.
Its likely that the cable was laid 30, 40 or 50+ years ago at a lower depth but over the years the ground level has been changed by various owners so it has become shallower and now you have exposed it.
