new conservatory roof - replacing poly carb

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.07 PM

I have a poly carb roof at present. It is over ten years old and have nothing but trouble with it. Three panels at present have holes in and have replaced two panels over the years due to damage not sure if weather or stones etc. My dilemma is i love the light airiness of the room and it is south facing. If i go for glass how durable is it as i do not want the expense of having to replace panels if it becomes a problem. Also it has been suggested i have a resin roof ??? with 2 1 metre like sunroof things in it . I am worried that i will lose light and not sure of this as i have never heard of it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

hi if you have a resin roof you will loose a lot of light and you mentioned you love the airiness of the room. if you change to glass you will gain more light than polly. I would recommend having Pilkington active glass with an optitherm coating on it http://www.pilkington.com/en-gb/uk/products/product-categories/thermal-insulation/pilkington-optitherm-range this is designed to be very efficient at keeping the room warm in the winter but cool in the summer. The only problem is the roof bars will not be reinforced enough to hold the additional weight of the glass and so these would need to be replaced as well as the "roof sheets" it is a straight forward job that would dramatically improve the room, but there is a cost involved regards luke
