Ask a questionDamp Proofing
i have damp next to my PVC front and back door
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.10 PM
I have got damp patches at the bottom of my wall next to my front and back door. Will I need new doors or could it be my damp proof membrane? My doors are pvc and about 15 years old and my damp membrane has never been updated
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi,
I would contact a general builder or uPvc/Glazier installer first to come and take a look to rule out any broken seals etc.. Also check that the land level outside both doors is at the very least 100mm below the damp course of your house. Check your pointing also (the mortar inbetween the bricks), if this has blow/fallen out then the weather will get in (very simple problem to sort out, most tradesman are more than capable of sorting it out even DIY people). Also check outside drains if you have one next/near to the door. All this can be checked by a general builder etc... Hope this helps.
