How do I deal with tradesman who has not done work as agreed in quote?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.52 PM

I hired a painter and decorator for the exterior of a property in brighton, a victorian terrace. Filling in some cracks in the render, and painting the entire property. The quote provided said the front and back of the house would be jet washed, and the paint used on the masonry would be dulux. No jet washing has taken place, and the paint used is Johnstone not Dulux. I've already had a disagreement with the guy doing the work regarding the excessive cost of materials for the job. He became quite aggressive when I questioned him about the costs. Should I try to talk to him about issues with the quote, am I right to do so?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi You are well within your rights to discuss the issues with the contractor if they aren't carrying out the works as quoted. If this gets you nowhere then speak to trading standards at your local Council for advice. Normally just mentioning trading standards to a bad builder is enough to make them more cooperative. Hope this helps SE Property Services Ltd
