Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.10 PM

What's is the result of using building sand for render rather than plastering sand.. On a long large garden wall ???

Hi Building sand will have lots of salt in it, this can lead to salt stains appearing on the rendered wall. Best to use plastering sand and maybe a waterproofing additive within your mix.

Plastering sand has been washed to get rid of any crap out of it - always use plastering sand for rendering.

Hi, Building sand has a higher water demand and that means during the drying out process you are more likely to get cracking and shrinkage issues which has adverse effects either immediately or later on.

Always use good quality plastering sand for rendering, in my experience any other sand can create cracking, it's plastering sand for a reason... 😁

Always plastering sand, it’s the correct sand to use for rendering as it’s been thoroughly washed removing the clay in it which will cause render to crack

Use Plastering sand as its been washed of salts and clay content which can cause shrinkage & cracking. Use this alongside Hydrated lime and plasticiser to give yourself a workable mix.
