What is the time limit of responsibility for bathroom fitting problem - 2 years after job

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.10 PM

Hi there - found what seemed a good pair of fitters to renovate bathroom and ensuite. While wasn't happy with quality of tiling in ensuite, they did a good job. However, 2 years later I've discovered (and have evidence from a leak tracing company) they that did not clip a hot feed pipe properly and it’s been responsible for a gradual accumulation of water behind a void. I've had to rip out toilet, basin and lift tiles including damage to communal areas to investigate. Water has leaked (tracked) thru ducts to properly below (concrete 1984 apartment complex). My question is, to what extent is the fitter responsible for making good. I cannot reach him. His profile says "All work guaranteed and fully insured." Any advice would be very helpful. He's not responding to voicemail or emails.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi hope your well, All products and workmanship is guaranteed ( well should be) so if it was 2 years ago then you should still be covered. Send him a message on here or if you have any other details such as a number or address then don't be frightened to get in touch. If you have had to rip the bathroom room out then he's responsible! He should with out question come and fix the problem and refit the bathroom at no extra cost. Stand your ground but be 110% they are at fault . If I were the fitter I would do it at no extra cost. If it's a manufacturing fault, they should just go to the supplier and you should still have the work completed free of charge .

If you can prove the leak was within his guarantees then he is responsible to come and fix and make good if not he has the option to pass the matter to his insurance
