Plastering & Rendering

Back to sand/cement what next?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.10 PM

Hi all. I'm currently redoing our utility room in our basement. We live in a 1800 stone cottage. The room was fully tiled before - whole walls & floor. I've taken off the tiles and most of the plaster has come off with them so not back to the sand/cement finish onto of the stone. Sand/cement doesn't look too bad apart from one place that looks to be coming loose. Whats the best way to move forward? I'd ideally like to tile 3 walls and have one wall plastered. Can I just pva the walls and tile directly onto the sand/cement? Or should I get the walls boarded and plastered ? Many thanks for your help. Iain

I would have the old sand n cement hacked off to brick then completely lime plastered a not tiled due to tiles being a moisture barrier!

Get all the loose stuff off and dab the walls with moister boards (Green) Then just fill and tape the joints Then you fine to tile onto this As long as your tiles dont exceed 25kg per metre
