Next door builders asking to use our electricity

We have builders putting up new houses next door. Today the site guy approached me and asked if they could use our outside tap for water for the next 5 months and pay our water bill for us and also use electricity from our supply - I think direct from the power cable he mentioned that runs from our house and similarly pay our electricity bill. This means they won't have to use a diesel generator. Is this legal or sensible?

Sounds like you could be on a win-win! They are simply looking for the easiest option and if they are paying the bill, then it seems okay? Get it in writing with meter readings and perhaps an upfront retainer!
