Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.52 PM

Dear All I have hired somebody to paint my living room. I had really bad experience couple of years ago ,when somebody really did bad job. This time hopefully i want to get it right. I am planning to remove the wall paper ,there are two layer of them and then paint it. My house was built around 1960. I am not sure the how good the plaster be after removing the wall paper. Q 1 What is the best way to remove these two layer of wall paper. Q2. if walls are not good or plaster comes off ,how to deal with this problem e. g. skimming etc. q3 if all goes well. then how many layers of paint? thanks for your help

Hi there here are some solutions for your questions Q1. Lightly scratch over the wallpaper with a tool called a hedgehog which is a tool with spikes. And then either soak the paper with warm water or you could you a steamer. Be very careful with the steamer not to hold it in one area to long this will avoid the plaster cracking. Q2 if the plaster has blown and fallen off in places you could either scrape back until the plaster becomes sound. Or the other option is to plaster skim the walls Q3. Coverage all depends on the paint colour. I would recommend at least three coats would be sufficient.
