Garage conversion - garage conversion specialist, general builder or project manage myself?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.52 PM

Good morning. I am thinking of converting my single garage into a 'chill out' room. The back of the garage leads onto an extension which is the kitchen and where there is a door to/from it and this end has already been insulated and has plasterboard fitted. There are electrics at that end too and I will need another double socket on the 'warm' wall. A light is in place too. Might go for underfloor heating rather than a radiator. Ceiling has 60% wood above joists so was wondering whether this would be a case of insulating and plasterboard or whether there are other considerations too? Just considering whether to employ a garage conversion specialist or a general builder or to manage the project and employ the trades myself as I know a few professionals - in an attempt to keep costs down a little as my budget is tight (not sure if this does keep costs down!) and it seems on the face of it quite a simple job (I hope). Also, do I require another door being cut out - which would be to the hall or is the current door plus a means of escape provided by a window sufficient? Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Just reading through your question Regarding. Works mentioned. It would seem very easy to manage yourself. So long as you don't mind chasing and organising the different trades you will need. It's just a matter of ultra organised on your behalf. You must make sure you get the trades to arrive and complete before your next one. Keep all materials coming the day before you need them. And patience you must if doing this have patience And good luck. Dave. ( bespoke )
