Bowing/cracked garden wall- neighbours ivy invasion?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.06 PM

Hello! SOS! :) Our garden wall (which belongs to our neighbours) has increasing become worse over the years & we are experiencing bowing & damp. Tiles are also bowing inside as the area also involved is the original outside toilet (now inside) & the shower room wall! We want to modernise these rooms however are concerned that the neighbours ivy may be the root of the problem..causing structure damage?! Would a builder be the correct tradesman to establish this or a tree surgeon? Kind regards & thank you!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

A builder would be the best person to approach about your situation. He would be able to see what structural damage the ivy has done to your property. Ivy can look nice but can be very dangerous if not cared for correctly the root system is very strong and can damage Brickwork tiles guttering. My advice would be to remove the ivy but please have it viewed before as once removed it could leave the damage it has already done unstable.
