Planning to build a sunroom - brickwork above cill level / lintels?
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.10 PM
I'm planning a sunroom. 4m x 6m. Most images I see of sunrooms show no brickwork above cill level, no apparent lintels. I'm thinking metal frame, say 50mm shs coming up through cavity to support weight of solid roof. No one seems to know. Can anyone advise?

Hi, I have build a few sun rooms with structural timber posts from cill level to top of window level and then a large timber ring beam around and then a traditional slate roof above. The timber posts and ring beam are then clad to match the window frames (upvc/oak etc) this method really looks good. This really is the best design as the sun room retains more heat in winter and does not get too hot in summer, unlike a traditional conservatory.
