Filling gap between flue and brick chimney necessary?

Anonymous user 6 September 2014 - 2.39 PM

We were recently told by a tradesman, that filling the gap between the new flue (for wood burner) and brick chimney wasn't necessary. But others have said it is! Any idea of the truth?

All depending on what type of Flue Liner is being installed. If it is a Flexible Stainless Steel Liner, Stove Pipe & Closure Plate to current standards and suitable for the fuel being used - no, you do not need Back Fill. If it is a Sectional, Pot or Concrete type Liner that has been fabricated installed within the Chimney- Yes. Best advice is to visit the HETAS web-site, select an H006 Approved Installer, and request a visit to check. Regards, Kevin.
