Painted kitchen ceiling and hours later paint is splitting, flaking and falling off
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.09 PM
Just moved in a month ago...Painted nearly every ceiling in our 14 year old house with Dulux ceiling paint ...all ceilings artexed...all good...but today painted kitchen ceiling with different Dulux ceiling and wall paint...bought on offer in Asda ....two hours later paint is splitting, flaking and falling off in patches ... Is it the paint or do you think the artex has never been painted...with a miss coat or mist coat? ...Any advice welcome or should I complain to Asda or Dulux. . .? Female home decorator.

Kitchen ceilings harbour alot of grease, if the cracking and flaking paint was around the oven area it could well be due to this, idealy the ceiling could of been sugar soaped first and then painted,it sounds like there is something stopping the emulsion from bonding to the artex.

As NDA said if the splitting is over cooker area, or the ceiling has suffered from bad ventilation and grease has built up then water based paints will not grip to the ceiling,or if the ceiling was painted originally in an oil based paint.that would cause the new paint to peel or split.
