How to wire a bathroom pull switch with 2 cables

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.06 PM

I am trying to replace a bathroom pull switch and I have two cables to connect each with Live, Neutral and Earth wires. The new switch has connectors marked COM , L1 and L2 and an earthing point. Where should the live and neutral wires go? --- As suggested (and as I had previously assumed) I joined the 2 neutrals in a terminal block, connected the 2 earths to the eath terminal and connected one live to L1 and the other to COM. Many thanks for your replies.

It sounds like you have live/neutral/earth coming into the switch point and live/neutral/earth from the switch point to the lamp. If so you would join the two neutrals using a small terminal block join the two earth's to the earth terminal in the base plate and connect one live to COM and the other live to L1. Please only work with what you feel comfortable with and isolate circuits while working. ADDITIONAL: Replacing a light switch is a minor job well within the capabilities of most DIY'ers and is most definitely NOT a notifiable job. so the most reasonable approach is to advise that DIY'ers work within their own capabilities as they will do anyway. scaremongering tactics in my opinion are extremely unprofessional.

very unusual to have a neutral at a bathroom pull cord light switch. have you definitely tested the black cable and proved its neutral and not just the switchline return?

the fact that you are asking this question indicates that you are not an electrician so should not be attempting to do it,I would suggest that you get an electrician to do this for your own safety, also very suprised that a tradesman is encouraging you to do so, regards Terry.
