Can my washing machine drain into an outside rain drain?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.09 PM

I want to move my washing machine from the kitchen to the garage. I can get a water supply to it from the downstairs loo next door but I'm thinking that the easiest thing to do with the waste water is pipe it out through the garage wall to a rain drain where the gutter downflow from the garage roof is. Is that allowed?

Depends on whether you have combined ground water/sewage pipes or separate ground water/sewage pipes. If separate then no. If in doubt you can lift your manhole cover and flush the loo to confirm this is the sewer manhole, then pour water down the rain drain as you call it and see if it flows through the same manhole.
