Plastering & Rendering

Poor quality workmanship, now lost faith can I ask plasterer to pay for someone else to put it right?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.51 PM

I've just paid £1000 to have three rooms replastered/skimmed. None of the walls are flat, I can actually feel the bumps with my fingers on he walls and when I place a flat item across the walls it is clear to see they bow in and out many times. I did ask the plasterer to go over one of the ceilings as it was very lumpy.he seemed to use a filler to go over the ceiling in places, but it remains lumpy and he appears not to have sanded the filler. I don't want to ask him back again as I have no faith in his abilities and he as damaged my property (scratched fridge freezer down to bare metal, stained chair with plaster splats and damaged kitchen moulding). Is it appropriate to get a quote to put this right and ask him to pay it?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If the walls were bumpy before the plasterer touched it there’s not much you can do with a 3mm skim

Hi there , sorry to hear about your bad experience . Firstly a few questions need to be asked . Was the individuals work quality guaranteed, ( professional indemnity insurance ) ? , if so you I’m sure you can request him to pay the bill for another plasterer to complete the job to a professional standard , on the grounds that his work standard was guaranteed, but he didn’t carry this out . Secondly , we’re the walls in a bad shape prior to work being carried out ? However regardless of the state of the walls prior to applying skim coats , the walls , if they were bad to start with , should have been bonded out and levelled out with a feather edge , then re skimmed , this would have eliminated any lumps . Hope this helps , and best of luck 👍 Tony
