Bathroom Fitting

New bathroom flooring options

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.09 PM

Hi, I see this question all over the place and there are so many different sugestions. I am replacing the tiling in a victroria house bathrooms 1st floor. Joists are 400mm apart. I really want to avoid a step. I've read that 15mm wbp ply is minimum requirement for flooring. Some of the floor boards are rotten so i would prefer to replace the existing floor boards and reduce the depth. The question is would 12mm Ply down first with lots of screws and then a 6mm layer of a cement board provide a good solid layer to ensure no cracking of the tiles. If not which one would be best to make thicker the Ply or the cement board ? Thanks in advance. P

Hi there, If you are ripping out the floor boards lay down 12mm plywood then cross way lay down top of it 9mm plywood. If there are the joists in good condition, the two layer of ply has to be strong enough. Do Not Use cement boards on the floor! They going to crack like a biscuit. If you need more advice send me a message trough MyBuilder. Good luck.

Hi. In all my jobs I rip out the old wooden floor, make a good the joists, levelling and reinforced if does require with aditional timber using screws, never nails, lay WBP plywood 18 mm with screws 5/50 mm. It is important and the quality of the plywood, the best is marine . Apply a good quality primer, not PVA, before tiling. I recommend Bal SBR. You can stick before tiling Ditra mat and then You will have a job guaranteed. Thanks.
