Refurbishing wood floors

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.09 PM

We own a 2 bedroom first floor flat/maisonette. The 2 bedrooms and landing are covered in carpet and the living room has laminate flooring. We have taken off the carpet in one of the bedrooms and there is (we think) original pine wood flooring underneath. Ultimately we dream of having painted glossy white wood floors (like a boutique) throughout the house. Currently we are looking for advice on how to go about doing this, i.e. do we need soundproofing and if we do, does this mean we will have to rip up the planks, install the sound dampener layer before nailing back the planks again? etc The floorboards continue underneath the dividing wall into the next room. We are open to suggestions. We have not bought any materials as yet.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, You don't need to put anything down. Depending on how old the house is there should be some kind of insulation between the floor and ceiling below. If you was to take them up and re insulate to deaden the sound you will have to replace all the flooring with new as it will never go back down as well as it was before. Your best bet is to just sand the boards down so they are smooth fill any big holes with a two pack wood filler then paint the glossy white you want. Hope this helps.
