Central Heating

Radiator pipes making sound even with heating off in the summer

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.09 PM

We installed a new central heating system last autumn. The radiator pipes were boxed behind skirting. There was clanking noise when the heating would come on and go off. However, at present, the heating has been completely off in the summer- even the boiler is set to serve only the taps but yet there is a clanking sound in the radiator pipes. What could be causing this and is there a solution? Grateful for any help. @James- the boiler was installed by a gas safe engineer but the pipe work and radiators were installed by our contractor. We did not have a heating engineer as such. Could bleeding them help?

is the installation still under the 1 year heating engineer's warranty? Update: First question is. Was the boiler commissioned and the manufacturers benchmark filled in? If so, was the heating system working correctly on hand over? Also is the heating system pressurised or not? (easy to identify, by looking for a pressure gauge near or within the boiler)

Could be pipework that isn't lagged properly and up tight against a surface like wood so when it's heating up it makes a clicking noise or it could possibly be air in the system.
