replacing joists and raising bearing joists
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.06 PM
Hi. i live in a 1902 home with a timber joist ground floor. i recently changed some flooring and noticed most of the joists suffered signs of woodworm. i had central heating fitted and the builder said joists were ok but could treat for woodworm. since then ive noticed bounce in parts of the ground floor so considering sister joists alongside. would that be ok? If so how do i fix the new joists to the brickwork? current joists sit in brick work. would a ledger board bolted be ok with hangers? also there a couple of load bearing internal walls that have sagged. i'm looking at raising these with bottle jacks after sistering either side of existing joists to strengthen.dig and fill concrete posts then 4x4 timber support posts or jacks to support.would that be ok? thanks
