bar mixer or concentric mixer with combi boiler?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.06 PM

We're replacing both our combi boiler and shower soon. The new combi will be a Valliant eco tec plus 831, and I've decided to go for a Mira shower, though their selection seems daunting. The Combiforce 415 seems like the obvious choice, and similar to what we had before, and the Excel also sounds like a safe bet, but what about the coda. They seem well priced and reviews are good, but are they a good option with a combi? We don't really care about flow control, so long as there is plenty. Really we just want a simple and reliable temperature control. Do the more expensive concentric mixers have other advantages over bar mixers?

Hi Obviously you're aware of the advantages of having a concentric mixer shower, they work by equalising the pressure of the hot or cold water. If someone in the house flushes the toilet whilst someone is in the shower then the hot water pressure will be reduced to match the cold, theory being the shower will temporarily reduce pressure without the temperature changing. This problem can be caused by a number of things, poor domestic hot water flow-rate, pipe sizing, number of elbows/bends on pipework etc. There will be a significant difference in price between a concentric mixer and standard thermostatic shower which could possibly be better spent on upgrading the boiler from an 831 to 837, providing DHW at 12.4 or 15.6 L/MIN respectively. You would probably benefit from your water pressure and flow rate being measured before carrying out any work. Hope thats helped you out. Steve ( Vaillant Advance Registered Installer )
