Do I need two different tradesmen for this floor repair job?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.09 PM

Am wondering if I need a tiler and a separate carpentry/handyman to do the actual floor repairs for the job below? Essentially, water gradually leaking through the grouting has led to the centre of our bathroom floor starting to sink where the wood (I believe it's plywood) beneath the tiles has softened. It's a type of floating floor where the plywood is affixed directly onto the joists and then tiles laid on top of it. I need someone to come in and stabilise the floor and then re-tile the affected area. The area affected is roughly 1 metre x 1 metre (or nine 30mm x 30mm tiles arranged in a square to be exact). We're hoping to be able to just get the affected part repaired rather than rip up and replace the entire floor but that can be assessed. Curious to know what trade classification I should be posting this job under, and whether I need to split the job into two?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi You need a tiler! Whomever did the original install didn't use marine grade ply for the floor which would have resisted water ingress and avoided this problem. It's unlikely that just the effected 'Dip' will be able to be repaired so I'd guess (without seeing it) that the floor needs to come up, Marine ply laid (18mm+) and then re-tiled/grouted. Any decent tiler can do this.
