Vent positioning - on cold wall or other side of room?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.06 PM

Me and my wife are sharing our bedroom with our twin boys. Last Winter we had black mould condensation problem in a corner of the room that where both walls are exposed. We got a dehumidifier but I realise that, even during the Summer, the room gets stuffy if the window is closed. There is a vent on an old, bricked-up chimney breast but I'm sure it doesn't do anything. I'm thinking of getting a vent put in. Should it be installed on the cold wall, or can it be installed on the other side of the room. It's just that it doesn't require a ladder if I put it in next to our roof terrace.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

a vent can be fitted as long as its an external wall. it will condensate as 4 people are sleeping in one room witch all of you produce moisture, a fresh vent is what you need we fit these

You require a balance. Yes fit a vent for air changes, improve heating and fit curtains to stop any cold bridge to the warm air from the glass window. If possible insulate the internal walls using insulated plasterboard.
