Cheaper way to add space to my property - extension or loft conversion?

Hi I need to decide if a conversion in the loft would be a cheaper way to add space to my property. I have 3 bedrooms and need to make the smallest into a bathroom, then make the 3rd bedroom in the loft, or would it be better to build a small extension at the side of the house to make a bathroom approx 2x3m?

worth investing a small amount of cash into some drawings from which quotes could be obtained, this will also help identify any possible problem areas.good luck
