economy 7 hot water tank and booster unit suddenly stopped working
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.09 PM
Both the E7 hot water tank and the associated booster (to top up the hot water during the day) have stopped working suddenly. Have tested that the E7 storage heaters work ok and they do so the issue isnt with the meter clock outside. No circuits have tripped. What is the most likely cause of this problem ? Elements inside or immersion heater component needs replacing?

Hi there the most likely cause is that the stat rods inside the elements have over heated and tripped out, there is a reset button (very small) underneath the cover of the elements, you should get a fully qualified electrician to reset these for you. It would be very rare for both elements to go at the same time which indicates it's just cut out trips that have gone.
Hope this is of help to you.

Hi Lizzie,
Sometimes when the element gives up it creates a short circuit which can damage the booster switch. It also could be the thermostat that has blown or that the booster/timer switch has malfunctioned. The only way to determine out what has happened is to test each part of the system. Hope this helps.

As you've said its probably the element or the stat.

Sounds like its the element that's gone. Some Economy 7 timers have a 13amp fuse in them so this should be checked as well.
