Hot water to breeze block built dog kennel

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.50 PM

Can anyone suggest the best way of getting hot water to a breeze block built kennel in my garden? The kennel is approximately 3 metres from the downstairs toilet (through a wall obviously) and I was wondering whether it's possible to run hot water out the house, under the ground and into the kennel block? I think my other option is to install an electric shower from a cold water supply. However the cable run from the fuse box to the kennel is approximately 50 metres and my mate said that's likely to be expensive. Any help is much appreciated Thanks

Strictly speaking, You'd need to ensure that the pipes were buried between 750mm deep and 1350mm deep, were ran out there at a temperature of around 60-65 degrees and locally reduced (using a thermostatic mixing valve) and were of a type approved for both burial underground and also suitable for carrying hot water. A secondary return system would also be required, as by the time you had hot water in the kennel, you'd have ran off many litres of cold water sat in the pipes. In reality, a hot and cold outside tap would be much easier and cheaper, with a hose connected for each one. Each tap would need just an isolating valve and a double check valve (both inside the property) in order to comply with the water regs. The type of tap with an inbuilt double check valve is allowed, but a second one must be fitted inside, due to the risk of the external one freezing. I have three outside taps - one cold, one hot and one at about 25 degrees which I use for washing my windscreen on freezing mornings. I know it's a luxury, but I was putting a hot and a cold in anyway, so thought 'why not' and it saves me ten minutes of doing something I hate every morning in the winter!
