Electric shower only giving hot water beyond repair?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.09 PM

Our electric shower has suddenly started only giving hot water. I think I may have heard a pop before this happened. Also at the bottom of the shower there is a small plastic tube which has always been there, with nothing coming out but now, a lot of water is coming out of here. Is it the pressure? Barely anything is coming out the shower head now. Beyond repair? I know it is hard to say without seeing but just wondered before I think about buying a new one.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Pressure relief valve has operated inside the shower. Very likely to be scaled up with limescale from hard water, so best bet is to get a complete new shower unit as it will be cheaper than trying to repair the existing one.

shower unit has possibly developed a fault or blockage which has caused the pressure release valve to operate hence water coming out of the tube. Pressure release valve is usually a replaceable part. Usually the best option is just to replace the whole unit rather than repair. You could try operating without the shower head on and putting your finger over the tube to see if it flows correctly and at the right temp, if so the head needs cleaning if this works you could then purchase a new PRV on line from manufacturer.
