Can a lamp with a standard plug be wired into the mains light circuit?
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.09 PM
I have a lamp with a standard UK plug on. What I want to do is wire it directly into the mains lighting circuit so the wall switch for the lights will operate the lamp. The lamp will be wall mounted and there is an existing wall mounted light where I want this lamp to go. A link to the lamp is here... http://www.made.com/broadway-star-floor-lamp-black Is this possible? If so how easy is it to connect the existing wiring up?

The best way of doing this is to install a 5amp socket that's connected to the lighting circuit and put an unfused round pin 5amp plug on the lamp. The 5amp lighting sockets have come back into fashion over the last 10 years and are now quite popular on new developments and in larger houses.

It's possible to connect it, but not sure how easy or safe would it be, as you're not an electrician.
